What Is a Slab Leak?
A slab leak is when the slab a home or building sits on begins to crack and leak into the floorboards. The leak can also pool underneath the house and cause the entire slab to move as the house shifts. Slab leaks are caused by running water and rain. When the water forces its way underneath a building, the slab can crack and begin to let the water in. We have many customers who have had puddles form on the first level flooring from standing water. This standing water is the direct result of a slab leak.
How Do You Fix a Slab Leak?
A slab leak is repairable only by someone with our certification and expertise. The slab itself must be repaired, but we must also repair the leak. The water that is inside the house or pooling underneath the house must be removed. When we visit a customer’s home, we begin by removing the water that is pooled under the slab. The release of this moisture will help the slab to close the cracks slightly. Also, we cannot fix the slab crack until the slab is completely dry. When we come to repair these slab leaks, we make certain that the entire job is completed at once. The slab leak must be dried completely. Also, the slab crack must be filled in completely. We want to make sure that the leak does not return, and that is why we take great care to fill in the crack completely.
How Can I Spot a Slab Leak?
Slab leaks will be spotted by customers who are diligent about how they take care of their homes. People who notice a puddle on the floor in one of their rooms likely have a slab leak that is pooling water. Also, the leak may show itself through water that is pouring from underneath the house. Finally, the slab may be exposed enough to show where the crack is. Customers may be suspicious of cracks, and finding evidence of an open crack that is taking on water is enough to get us on the scene.
Our professional services begin with a complete inspection of any suspected leaks. Once we have determined where the leaks is, we will act to close the leak and keep the space dry. Call us today at (205) 631-6445.
